Depression

Depression is one of the most common reasons people seek counseling services. Depression of various degrees afflicts nearly 10% of the American population at any given time and nearly half of all Americans have experienced a depressive disorder for at least some period in their lives. Depression does not always get treated. Untreated depression can get better with time, but it can also get worse. Nearly 30,000 American per year commit suicide as a result of depression, more than double the number of those who die from AIDS / HIV. The number of those who attempt suicide but don't actually die as a result is estimated to be between 240,000 and 750,000 per year. Proper treatment for depression is proven to have measurable benefits to the patient's quality of life and is shown to dramatically lower the risk of suicide. Practically every person treated from depression is shown to demonstrate some degree of improvement in their depressive symptoms. Even better, most who undergo therapy also report significant improvements to their real circumstances.

Relationship Counseling

Divorce rates in America are near 50%. The average cost of a divorce in the US is around $15,000, which does not include division of marital assets, bills for separate households and ongoing child support. In addition to the financial costs, there many studies that suggest greater susceptible to all manner of serious health problems made worse by divorce and separation. Most important of all however is the incredible impact divorce has on the children. Children with divorced parents are significantly more likely to suffer ADHD, smoke, have poor socials skills, have poor math skills, are at increased likelihood of dropping out of school, are more likely to engage in criminal activity, get sick more frequently and they themselves experience divorce in their marriages. Far and away, couples counseling with a skilled practitioner is the best way to avoid divorce and strengthen a rocky relationship. Even If your not yet married or on the verge of divorce, relationship counseling is an ideal way to address hardships and build a better relationship.

 Anxiety, Stress and Worry

Stress and worry don't just make us feel tense, they have significant impact on our health as well. Research shows us that stress and anxiety contribute to heart disease, obesity, asthma, GERD, irritable bowel syndrome, headaches, and Alzheimer’s disease. Other research shows us that stress also plays a roll in weakening the immune system which leaves us more susceptible to everything from the common cold, to cancer. Besides for the health risks of stress, there are also the direct impacts on our lives. Those suffering stress is found to make more hasty and poor decisions and engage in avoidance. These frequently result in problems with romantic relationships, friendships, family, job, career, education and even our enjoyment or recreation. Stress and anxiety are relatively easy to treat with counseling and the benefits are well worth the effort.

Anger Management

Anger is a normal part of life. We all get angry from time to time, and generally with good reason. Some people take it too far or experience it too often. If angry reactions have already impacted your life or if you fear you are venting your frustrations in a dangerous way, therapy is the best way to work with those feeling and take control back for real.

 Misunderstood Populations

Many people out there have had bad experiences in the past with therapists who they felt didn't understand them. Some people just have the sort of lifestyle that most other people just can't relate to. At Success Development Services, we have vast experience and insight working with client's who have been marginalized by society. Ideally, all therapists are accepting and culturally competent, but here, we really understand people from all sorts of walks of life. A complement we hear often is “You're the first therapist that helped me without wanting to change who I was”. Are you LGBT, atheist, buddhist, vegetarian or vegan ?  Great!  What about born again Christian, Tea Partier, Libertarian, Marxist, Jehovah's Witness, or an Entrepreneur?  Awesome!  Are you a geek, nerd, goth, Wiccan, Pagan, Asatruar, dancer or into fetish lifestyle, tattoos or piercings?  Cool!  We are certainly not all of these things ourselves, but we respect, understand and love others who are. We don't think of them as things people need to change and we understand the special social hardships these people can experience.
